7 December – Climate talks commence

The United Nations climate summit opens today. My friend Jo went on the Wave March in London on Saturday to raise awareness of environmental issues. She’s hoping that the countries attending the summit in Copenhagen (Denmark) make really good decisions about how we treat our world.

8 December – 100th soldier killed in Afghanistan

I was sad to learn today that the 100th soldier this year had been killed in Afghanistan yesterday. Both the UK and USA are sending more troops there to help bring the conflict to an end, and bring peace to the region.

9 December – The carbon footprint of meat

I was amazed to find one Swedish fast-food restaurant that’s discouraging its diners to eat meat! Max Burger has begun publishing a carbon footprint for each item on its menu!

10 December – Obama collects Nobel Prize

US President Barak Obama collects his Nobel Peace Prize today. He’s not the only one collecting a Nobel Prize; there are other winners for physics, chemistry, medicine or physiology, literature and economics.

12 December – A lot of laughs

My mate Jon was definitely staying in for the British Comedy Awards tonight. He was amazed at how many awards Outnumbered won (three in all) compared to Harry Hill’s TV Burp, which won two! But then a comedy about children terrorizing their parents sounds funnier to me!

13 December – On this day… space monkey search called off

On 13 December 1958 the search for Gordo the monkey was called off. He had crash-landed in the Atlantic Ocean after travelling 300 miles into space, the furthest any living creature had gone at that time. This little squirrel monkey was not the only animal to go into space!
