12 January – Snowy conditions on US news

My friend Kelly told me that she’d seen our bad weather on the American news channel CNN. Many other countries in Europe have faced bad weather too.

13 January – Earthquake hits Haiti

I was so sad to see the devastation an earthquake has caused in Haiti This part of the island of Dominica is poor enough as it is. The earthquake, the biggest in 200 years, has destroyed lives, homes, schools and workplaces. Thankfully help is on its way.

14 January – Helen Mirren joining Madam Tussauds

I love Madame Tussauds in London – I think the waxworks of historical figures and stars of stage, screen and sport are amazing. I noticed that today Dame Helen Mirren, one of my favourite actresses, was being added.

15 January – Korean teens fastest texters

Did you know there were World Texting Championships? The competitors try to win a $60,000 prize for speed texting while facing obstacles and distractions. The teenage duo from Korea were delighted to win!

16 January – Birds and reptiles breathe the same way

My dad was keen to tell me that scientists have worked out that reptiles and birds breathe in the same way. This means it may be the way that their archeosaur ancestors breathed.

17 January – Golden Globes favour Avatar

I had to see who won the Golden Globes today, being such a big film fan. The biggest winner was the 3D film Avatar, which got awards for best Motion Picture (Drama) and Best Director.
