22 February – Britain wins gold

British athlete Amy Williams won a gold medal in the Winter Olympic Games in the women’s skeleton event. This is the first British gold in a Winter Olympics since the figure skater Robin Cousins in 1980.

23 February – London Fashion Week

The 2010 London Fashion Week, which began on Friday, is in full swing. There have been so many catwalk shows from the most famous British designers. My friend Jen is a massive fan of House of Holland; she loved Henry Holland’s funky designs.

25 February – 1982 parents stop school beatings

I was amazed when I realized that it was only in 1982 that corporal punishment in schools was stopped. Parents took the matter to the European Court of Human Rights. Schools were told they needed parental permission in order to use physical punishments on pupils.

26 February – Shark aquarium leaking

Shoppers in Dubai were very concerned when a 2.6 million gallon indoor tank cracked. The shoppers were directed to safety, while hoping that the 33,000 fish and hundreds of sharks stayed put!

27 February – Earthquake hits Chile

Overnight, Chile was hit by an earthquake that measured 8.8 on the Richter scale. This is a massive force, but it has not caused so much damage as the earthquake in Haiti. Chile, in South America, lies along the world’s most active fault line, and so the country is more prepared.

28 February – Europe faces massive storms

The weather is again an issue this weekend, with massive storms across Europe. A storm front heading through Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium and Germany has caused huge damage and taken lives. Let’s hope it’s a quieter week of weather to come.
